27th Annual Women’s Blues Revue

This month’s Maple Blues Newsletter features exclusive interviews with Women’s Blues Revue featured vocalists Selena Evangeline (article by Bill King, page 4) and Rachelle van Zanten (page 4). To check out this month’s newsletter, click here.

The featured vocalists for the 27th annual Toronto Blues Society Women’s Blues Revue at Massey Hall on Saturday November 30 are Rachelle van Zanten, Layla Zoe, Kim Richardson, Betty RichardsonRoxanne PotvinSelena Evangeline and Dawn Tyler Watson.

These featured vocalists will be backed by Morgan Doctor (drums) and Christine Bougie (guitar) who join new bandleader Rebecca Hennessy (trumpet), Brandi Disterheft (bass), Suzie Vinnick(guitar), Lily Sazz (keys), Colleen Allen (sax), and Carrie Chesnutt (sax).

Songs of My Mother: A Celebration of African Women

 

Batuki Music presents an evening of women and song at Songs of My Mother: A Celebration of African Women. Featuring Tapa DiarraEvelyn MukwedeyaMemory MakuriBlandine Mbiyaand Ruth Mathiang, the five vocalists will be accompanied by a supporting cast of talented musicians as well as choreographer/dancer Mabinty SyllaSaturday, December 7 at Daniels Spectrum: Ada Slaight Hall. TBS Mississippi Trip April 6-13, 2014!

The Toronto Blues Society is planning a blues trip to MississippiApril 6-13, 2014! Insight Travel (TICO insured) is helping produce an irresistible package for those who always wanted to visit the Deep South. The trip will be hosted by Mark “Bird” Stafford(pictured) and will feature total immersion in Mississippi culture. Highlights of the trip will include the Juke Joint Festival, the Civil Rights Museum and a visit to the Blues Foundationheadquarters in Memphis, TN!

$200 deposits are now being accepted for the Mississippi Blues Trip 2014! To process your deposit and guarantee your seat, please contact TBS head office and they will be able to assist you further.
