TBS Gladstone Series – Harrison Kennedy Tonight

The Toronto Blues Society presents the best in blues talent the first Thursday of each month at the Melody Bar in The Gladstone Hotel. Performances are free to the public. Stop on by for an intimate solo acoustic performance from Harrison Kennedy (pictured) on Thursday December 6. Note that this show will begin at9:30pm.

The new year will bring some terrific artists to the Gladstone stage including The Chuck Jackson Trio (Jan 3), Rob Lutes CD release (Feb 7), Michael Pickett (March 7), Suzie Vinnick (April 4),Chris Antonik CD Release (May 2) and more. http://www.gladstonehotel.com

Christmas Party with the Cameo Blues Band – This Saturday Night

The TBS Christmas Party will take place this year on Saturday December 8 atthe Delta Chelsea Monarchs Pub (33 Gerrard Street West). Don’t miss a thunderous performance by the Cameo Blues Band at 9pm. Your emcee for the evening will be Blues Doctor Julie Hill!

Annual General Meeting

The Toronto Blues Society Annual General Meeting will take place in the Gerrard Room (next to Monarchs Pub on the main floor) at The Delta Chelsea Hotel (33 Gerrard Street West) at 7pm on Saturday December 8, before the Christmas Party festivities. All Toronto Blues Society members are encouraged to attend. Following the meeting, there will be a volunteer appreciation event in Monarchs Pub before the Christmas party begins.

Maple Blues Awards – Last Chance to Vote!

The nominees for the Maple Blues Awards are selected by a distinguished panel of 47 blues experts headed by the steering committee consisting of Deborah Cartmer (CFBU, St. Catharines), Yves Trottier (DAWG FM, Ottawa), Paul Norton (CFRO / CITR, Vancouver), and Gord MacAulay (Canadian Blues Alliance, Saskatoon). The panel includes radio hosts, journalists, and festival organizers regionally distributed across Canada.

Maple Blues Awards

Just announced: Harrison Kennedy will be performing at the Maple Blues Awards, and the lobby party following the show will feature Chuck Jackson!

The Maple Blues Awards returns to beautiful Koerner Hall to honour the best in Canadian blues. Hosted by Raoul Bhaneja, the awards show will take place on Monday January 21, 7pm. This is the blues show of the year featuring live musical performances by Carlos del Junco (ON), Matt Minglewood (NS), Steve Strongman (ON), The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer (BC), Suzie Vinnick(SK/ON, pictured), Nanette Workman (QC), Harrison Kennedy (ON) and theMaple Blues Band! Stick around for the lobby party after the show featuring Chuck Jackson!

Canada’s Biggest Blues Fan Contest

Do you think you just might be the biggest blues fan in Canada? We want to see why you think so! Send us a photo of what you think best represents something great about the blues. It could be a picture of a prized record collection or a favourite instrument, a snap of you and a local blues hero, the coolest local blues hang out or the best festival you’ve attended. The photo can be new or old.

The winning submission will be shown during in the 16th Annual Maple Blues Awards show, January 21st at Koerner Hall in Toronto.  And courtesy of The Toronto Blues Society, you’ll receive a most excellent prize pack: a t-shirt, CD and one-year membership

Email a 50 word description of the photo that also tells us about who you are and where you are from, in addition to your contact info, and ONE photo (max 10MB, 300DPI Resolution) per participant to: canadasbiggestbluesfan@gmail.com.

Blues Summit 6 – Early Bird Discount Available Now!

Register now for the most important blues conference in Canada, Blues Summit6. This biennial event brings together artists, festival directors, media, labels, managers, agents and other blues industry with both a showcase and a conference component.

The Early Bird discount is available until New Years ($99 public / $79 musician), Regular & Walk Up ($119 public / $99 musician). If you are a musician or charter member, please contact the office to access the musician rate code. There will be a delegate hotel code to access the room rate of $99. The code will be sent out with your registration confirmation.

Blues Summit 6 takes place at The Delta Chelsea Hotel (33 Gerrard St W) January 18-21, 2013. The keynote speaker for this edition of the conference is CBC/Stony Plain’s Holger Petersen. The weekend culminates with the Maple Blues Awards on January 21, which is ticketed separately through the Koerner Hall Box Office.
