27th Annual Women’s Blues Revue

The featured vocalists for the 27th annual Toronto Blues Society Women’s Blues Revue at Massey Hall on Saturday November 30 are Rachelle van Zanten, Layla Zoe (pictured), Kim Richardson, Betty Richardson, and more to be announced in the coming weeks!

These featured vocalists will be backed by Morgan Doctor(drums), and Christine Bougie (guitar), who join new bandleaderRebecca Hennessy (trumpet), Brandi Disterheft (bass), Suzie Vinnick (guitar), Lily Sazz (keys), Colleen Allen (sax), and Carrie Chesnutt (sax).

TBS Mississippi Trip in April!

 

The Toronto Blues Society is planning a blues trip to Mississippi in April 2014! The trip will start in Memphis and will include a blues focused itinerary with stops at the Delta Blues Museum, Dockery Farms, BB King Museum, Po Monkeys, Morgan Freeman’s Ground Zero and much much more, hosted by knowledgeable blues artist and TBS Board Member Mark “Bird” Stafford!  The package requires travelers to arrange transport to Memphis and a $200 deposit will hold your space while defining the size of the party.  We are firming up details with our travel agent, so please contact the TBS office if this unique opportunity appeals to you.

TBS @ Gladstone Hotel

The Toronto Blues Society presents the best in blues talent the first Thursday of each month at the Melody Bar in The Gladstone Hotel. Performances are free to the public, begin at 9pm, and the Gladstone has an excellent menu if you arrive for the show early! TBS is turning the volume up for the next show with the Jerome Godboo Band (pictured) on Sept 5!

The Blues at UofT

Former Jazz FM radio host Larry Green is teaching a six week course in blues appreciation at the University of Toronto St. George Campus New College September 12-October 17, on Thursdays 6:30pm-8:30pm. This year’s guest lecturers include John Valenteyn, Gary Kendall, Jackie Richardson, and Donnie Walsh. Click here to enroll

Blues in the Garden

The free annual Blues in the Garden art display and live blues performance takes place 2pm-5pm during the Queen West Art Crawl on Sunday September 22. There will be a performance by 2013 TBS Talent Search winner Sugar Brown (pictured), as well as bbq (dietary options available) and beverages available for purchase, including Dan Aykroyd Wines.

Maple Blues Awards Charter Member Discount

Seydel Session Steel Summer Edition Blues Harmonica

Seydel’s Big Six Classic…It’s a Tool, Not a Toy. With six holes and Stainless Steel Reeds. Available in the key of C in two versions: ‘Blues’ has holes 1 to 6 of a standard 10 hole harmonica which equals 12 tones. This version is best suited for playing in the second position; ‘Folk’ version has holes 4 to 9 of a standard 10 hole harmonica, lowered one octave, and is suited for playing many traditional songs in the first position.
