Christmas is Coming: Ken Whiteley is in the recording studio mixing his new CD, entitled The Light of Christmas, which will be released in November. This fabulous new recording contains over half original Ken Whiteley material and does not include a bunch of “old chestnuts” – hopefully to the pleasure of more than just some people. The CD release is set for the last Sunday afternoon in November (25th) at Hugh’s Room in Toronto. Joining Ken for the afternoon will be The Levy Sisters (Amoy & Ciceal), David Wall, Ben Whiteley and Bucky Berger, all of whom performed on the recording. This concert will be in support of the Daily Bread Food Bank; 10% of all CD sales will go to support their important work in Toronto and across the GTA. All are welcome to bring non-perishable food items for the donation bin too.
Folk Awards: A couple of our favourite blues performers have been nominated in the “Solo Artist” category of the Canadian Folk Music Awards. Congratulations to Matt Andersen “Coal Mining Blues” and Michael Jerome Browne “The Road Is Dark.” The Folk Awards will be presented on November 17 at the Imperial Theatre in Saint John, New Brunswick. Matt Andersen will be performing with Mike Stevens at the gala. The Awards and Reception will be preceded by a week-end of nominee showcases, films & discussion. www.folkawards.ca
