Women’s Blues Revue – This Saturday!

The 24th annual Women’s Blues Revue takes place this Saturday November 27 at Massey Hall! Member discount details are available by contacting the office. Tickets are going fast, don’t delay! The singers this year are Kellylee Evans, Alana Bridgewater, Little Miss Higgins, Robin Banks, Rita Chiarelli and Alejandra Ribera! This year, the band will be led by musical director Donna Grantis (guitar, pictured), and features Brandi Disterheft (bass), Lindsay Beaver (drums), Lily Sazz (keys), Colleen Allen (sax), Carrie Chesnutt (sax) and Rebecca Hennessy (trumpet). Hosted once again by CBC Radio personality and blues lover Shelagh Rogers! The event will be recorded by CBC Radio Two for future broadcast on Canada Live, Saturday Night Blues, and Concerts on Demand.Tickets are available by calling 416-872-4255 and visiting http://www.masseyhall.com/ 

Gladstone Hotel Melody Bar Blues / Free Admission

The Toronto Blues Society will be presenting the best in local blues talent the first Thursday of each month at The Melody Bar in The Gladstone Hotel. There will be no cover charge and each performance will begin at 8pm. Upcoming performances include: Harrison Kennedy (Dec 2, pictured), with more being announced soon for 2011. http://www.gladstonehotel.com/ 

TBS Christmas Party & Annual General Meeting

The Toronto Blues Society’s Christmas Party will take place at Monarchs Pub at the Delta Chelsea Hotel on Saturday December 11. Performing live at 9:30pm is Blackburn (pictured)!

For current members, the annual general meeting will take place at 7pm.

Maple Blues Awards

The Maple Blues Awards will take place on Monday January 17th, 2011 at Koerner Hall. The award show recognizes the best national blues musicians who have made an impact over the last year. Toronto actor and bluesman Raoul Bhaneja is set to host the Maple Blues Awards Gala night as Emcee! There will be performances by Tom Lavin, Jack De Keyzer, Shakura S’Aida, Dawn Tyler Watson, Matt Andersen in addition to the house band, The Maple Blues Band. Voting is now open for the Maple Blues Awards! Cast your vote at www.mapleblues.ca. Voting closes December 12.

Blues Summit Five

The Blues Summit Five will take place at the Delta Chelsea Hotel on January 15-17, 2011. The keynote speaker this year is Washington, DC’s XM Radio Broadcaster Bill Wax. Showcasing artists will be announced shortly, and delegates will be made up of festival directors and blues delegates from Canada and around the world. Delegate passes are on sale now, and can be purchased through www.ticketpro.ca or 416-645-9090/1-888-655-9090. For member/musician discounts, please contact the office. A discount code for the Maple Blues Awards will be issued with purchase of each delegate pass (max 2 tickets).

5th Annual Tribute to Tom Waits

Several blues artists will perform at the 5th Annual Tribute to Tom Waits at Hugh’s Room on Friday November 26th, including Diana Braithwaite & Chris Whiteley, Kevin Breit (pictured), Alfie Smith, and Treasa Levasseur.
