Gladstone Hotel First Thursday: Steve Dawson – Free Admission

The Toronto Blues Society will be presenting the best in local blues talent the first Thursday of each month at The Melody Bar in The Gladstone Hotel. There will be no cover charge and each performance will begin at 8:30pm. The next performance features the mastermind of Black Hen records, producer, guitarist and songwriter, Vancouver based Steve Dawson (pictured) on April 7. Check out recent reviews of his just released CD “Nightshade” here care of The Vancouver Sun and Exclaim: http://bit.ly/dQ2orthttp://bit.ly/dKfqmu. Jim Byrnes Wins Blues Album of the Year Juno Award

Congratulations to Jim Byrnes (pictured) for winning the Blues Album of the Year at the Juno Awards for his album “Everywhere West” (Black Hen Records)!

Congrats again to all the nominees in the blues category: Johnny Max, The Sojourners, Harry Manx, and FATHEAD! A big thank you to Collective Concerts for working with the TBS on the JUNOFEST blues events at The Delta Chelsea Hotel!

Harmonica Workshop

Hosted by Maple Blues Award winner Paul Reddick (pictured), this year’s harmonica workshop will take place on Sat April 9 at Dominion on Queen (500 Queen St E). The workshop will run from 2pm-6pm and will cost $10 for members / $12 for public. The backup band consists of Bucky Berger on drums, James Rasmussen on bass, and Teddy Leonard on guitar with guest artists Ken Yoshioka, Al Lerman and Howard Willett. Presented by The Toronto Blues Society in association with Lee Oskar Harmonicas.

 

CNE Blues Festival

The CNE Blues Festival returns for a second year on Sunday August 28, and has just announced their line-up including: Dylan Wickens & The Grand Naturals (pictured), Mike Goudreau, Digging Roots, Treasa Levasseur, Steve Strongman, and JJ Grey & Mofro. Free with admission to CNE. 11am-9pm. www.theex.com

 

TBS 26th Anniversary

Mark your calendars! Monarchs Pub (Delta Chelsea Hotel – 33 Gerrard St W) will host the TBS 26th Anniversary celebration on Thursday May 19. There will be no cover charge, and the featured performers will be Shrimp Daddy and Jerome Godboo! Show at 9pm.

 

Where Will YOU Be August 18?

The date for the Toronto Blues Society Talent Search is set for August 18 at Nathan Phillips Square! If you are a local blues musician/band, check back next week for information on how to submit to become one of six performing finalists…Last year’s winners were The 24th Street Wailers (pictured)!
