Canadian Music Week Blues Showcase Tomorrow Night

DAWG FM and the Toronto Blues Society present the blues showcase atCanadian Music Week on Friday March 22 at Monarchs Pub in the Delta Chelsea Hotel (33 Gerrard St W) starting at 8pm. Performing live will be Steve Strongman, Soulstack, Firebelly and Danny Marks! Tickets are only $10 and are available in advance and at the door! http://torontobluessociety.com/events/

MusiCounts Benefit

The JUNO concert series will include a night of blues, roots, and world music atLula Lounge on Wednesday March 27. Performing live will be blues artistsShakura S’Aida (pictured) and Steve Strongman alongside Jaron Freeman-Fox, Lemon Bucket Orkestra, Jaffa Road, Jory Nash, Scarlett Jane and more. Continuing Education Course on The Blues

Former JAZZ FM DJ Larry Green is lecturing a course on blues music at the University of Toronto at the School of Continuing Studies on Wednesday nights 6:30-8:30pm for six sessions starting April 3. Learn more about the course and how to enroll here

TBS Talent Search Submissions

Attention emerging blues artists! The Toronto Blues Society Talent Search will be open for submissions starting this Monday and must be received by the TBS office by Friday May 10 at 5pm. The competition is open to emerging Canadian blues artists who have not appeared in the finals of the talent search in the past and who do not have national distribution. This year, the finals will take place at Dominion on Queen (500 Queen St E) on Friday June 7 andSaturday June 8. The prize for the winner  includes a showcase slot at Blues Summit Seven in 2015, a gig at the Delta Chelsea Hotel Monarchs Pub, a day at Revolution Recording, a performance at the Kitchener Blues Festival subject to final approval, mentoring meetings with industry professionals and more! Artists can submit by sending a CD, one sheet and $15 submission fee to the TBS office (910 Queen St W, Suite B04, Toronto, ON, M6J 1G6) or through Sonicbids (link will be provided in next week’s Where It’s At!).

TBS Gladstone Series

The Toronto Blues Society presents the best in blues talent the first Thursday of each month at the Melody Bar in The Gladstone Hotel. Performances are free to the public, begin at 9pm, and the Gladstone has an excellent menu if you arrive for the show early! Catch Suzie Vinnick on April 4!

TBS Blues Dance Birthday Bash

Mark your calendar for the Toronto Blues Society’s 28th birthday partyfeaturing a performance by Jack de Keyzer (pictured) that will feature material off his new CD Electric Love at the Delta Chelsea Monarchs Pub on Thursday May 30. The event will be free to the public, so members are encouraged to bring a friend! Cake will be served between sets and this show will have a special focus on the art of blues dancing!

Remembering Geoff Chapman

There will be a gathering of friends and colleagues to celebrate Geoff’s life at The Pilot Tavern (22 Cumberland St) on Sunday March 24, 4pm-8pm. Music. Food. Drink.

Bluesaganza for Autism

 

Bluesaganza for Autism takes place at CAW Hall (124 Bunting Road, St. Catherines, ON) on Saturday March 30 with proceeds going to Autism Ontario – Niagara Region Chapter! The line-up for 2013 is Shakura S’AidaJerome Godboo (pictured), Jon Knight And the Bluesangaza All-Stars (Jim Casson – drums/musical director, Mark Lalama – keyboards, Dave Curry – guitar, Garth Vogan – bass, Gord Aeichele – sax, Alistair Robertson – sax)! Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. Layla Zoe Benefit

Layla Zoe has been off work for more than two months with a back injury. There is a special compilation CD available for purchase that includes music from Layla’s first four albums, remastered by Raines Records, called Years in the Blue Flame.
