The Toronto Blues Society presents an one-of-a-kind afternoon of music uniting the blues of Curley Bridges with the string quartet arrangements of Kevin Fox on Sunday, March 13 at Hugh’s Room, 2261 Dundas St., Toronto.

Electro-Fi artist Bridges’ career has spanned six decades and several musical genres including blues, r’n’b, and rock ‘n’ roll. In 1953 Curley helped Frank Motley Jr. form the Motley Crew and performed with the band for the next 13 years as a lead vocalist, pianist and occasional trombone player and drummer. In 1954, he arranged and recorded Big Mama Thornton’s “Hound Dog” which was an obvious influence for Elvis Presley’s adaptation two years later. Bridges continues to delight audiences with his mix of jump, jive and down-and-dirty blues. BlueStrings will be his first return to Toronto in over a year.

Fox is a Toronto multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, and singer who studied composition at McGill University. Since moving to Toronto in 1991, he has accompanied such artists as Sarah Harmer, Tom Cochrane, and Celine Dion. He has also composed and arranged material for Damhnait Doyle, Julie Black, and Delores O’Riordan of the Cranberries. Earlier this year, he released his debut CD Come Alive.

Fox and Bridges will be joined on stage by special guest Chris Whiteley, string players Karen Graves, Kathryn Sugden, and Johann Lotter, drummer Bucky Berger, and bassist Victor Bateman. The ensemble will play Fox’s stunning arrangements of Bridges’ songs from his recent Electro-Fi CDs Keys to the Blues and Mr. Rock ‘n’ Soul. In addition, Whiteley and Fox will perform their own material.

This event is produced with support from Imperial Tobacco Canada Ltd., the Ontario Arts Council, the Department of Canadian Heritage and the City of Toronto through the Toronto Arts Council.
