Jesse Whiteley is the next talented musician, singer, and composer to arise from one of Canada’s premiere musical families. Having been exposed to the music of his dad, Chris, and his uncle, Ken, for just over two decades, he has already achieved what most musicians twice his age could only dream of. Comfortable in all styles from blues to jazz and funk to country, he is equally at home playing with a 20-piece swing band in a huge concert hall or a blues trio in a small club. While still a student at Toronto’s Humber College, he has already recorded and toured Canada, the United States, and Europe with the JW-Jones band. On March 29th, he will join four other pianists at the Orbit Room (580A College St.) for the Toronto Blues Society Keyboard Workshop. Jesse is quickly becoming one of Canada’s ‘piano players to watch’. |
If the names Albert Ammons and Meade Lux Lewis mean anything to you then you should know Detroit-based Bob Seeley, a stride-piano master who spent his formative years playing with Meade Lux Lewis, and along the way accompanied blues great Sippie Wallace for several years. He performs a two-piano tour de force with Bob Baldori, seen here blowing some blues harp but equally adept on the ivories, having spent many years touring with Chuck Berry, Corky Siegel and Bo Diddley. They bring their two-piano show (“Two Bob’s, four hands, twenty fingers, 100+ years of Boogie”) to the Glenn Gould Studio on Saturday, April 19 at 7:00 pm. www.boogiebob.com.
